For this highly bespoke project, SPARK introduced the unique ‘Green Ceramic’ tile, developed in partnership with the University of New South Wales, and its Sustainable Materials Research & Technology (SMaRT) team.
Made in the university's MICROfactorie™, from non-recyclable waste, the Green Ceramic tiles were installed by SPARK onto specially made panels in this ground-breaking bin enclosure. The tiles are both decorative and environmentally friendly, created for a circular economy that recycles and reuses waste.
Lead by Veena Sahajwalla - Professor of Materials Science at UNSW, Director of the UNSW Centre for Sustainable Materials Research and Technology, and an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow - this project stands out in SPARK history as one of the most engaging and forward-thinking projects we have had the honour to be involved in.
