Designed and fabricated by SPARK for the City of Melbourne’s Social Spaces Pilot Project, this unique piece blurs the line between sculpture and furniture.
Preceded by the collection and analysis of data, to provide insight into the habits and preferences of people using public spaces, the City of Melbourne's design brief proposed a multi-function unit with separate and distinct surfaces that could be used for sitting, standing, eating, playing and performing.
Enthusiastically taking up the challenge, SPARK’s design team approached the project with an attitude of open exploration and a willingness to challenge current conventions in street furniture. Several design concepts were presented, which resulted in the development and production of an intriguing, inviting and engaging multi-function object that is now being used and enjoyed in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton.
This unique seat-bench-table-platform-sculpture is a symbol of the creativity and innovation that Spark brings to all its projects.
