The Parks Library Public Benches
Project: The Parks Library & Community Centre, South AustraliaDate: Sep 2018
Project Designer: JPE Design Studio
Landscape Designer: JPE Design Studio
Contractor: Greenplay Australia
Brief: Oriented around a central community garden that has been sliced into the overall form of the surrounding building pavilions, the Parks Library and Community Centre design blurs the indoor-outdoor spaces and promotes a natural flow of movement from public realm to public place. Designers at JPE envisioned two large peanut-shaped planters in the space and approached SPARK with their design to assist in taking it through production design.
Solution: With the aid of SPARK’s in-house industrial design team, manufacturing and structural design solutions were developed and documented to bring the unique planters to life. Incorporating multiple GRC cast sections, sandwiched cleverly around a HDG steel frame that carries the floating timber bench, the planters provide a place for conversation and reflection. The heart of the facility, this central garden doubles as an event and exhibition space as well as a welcoming and relaxed gathering location.
