Stage 1A of the Festival Plaza public realm upgrade was an integral part of the larger redevelopment of Festival Plaza. A partnership between the State Government of South Australia, SkyCity Adelaide, and Walker Corporation, the project represents one billion dollars in public and private investment.
SPARK was first engaged in consultation on the Festival Plaza project with ARM Architecture when it commenced in early 2016.
Asked to consider design development and manufacture of the bespoke arbours, SPARK created scaled arbour prototypes for consideration and presentation to the South Australian government.
In 2019 and throughout 2020, SPARK developed designs of the furniture suite, working closely with the project teams at ARM Architecture and Aspect Studios.
The complex curves of the wall top seating required an in depth look at the entire plaza layout, and in order to produce the suite on time and within budget, SPARK led a design project to develop furniture modules that Aspect Studios and Bianco Precast could use to finalise a working design, changing planter bed shapes and wall levels to suit the furniture modules.
Also featured within the plaza are SPARK’s Integra Bin enclosures, and a geometric GRC art piece which is central to the deck overlooking Adelaide Oval.
Works were completed in conjunction with Outside Ideas, Hansen Yuncken, and Urbans (Urban Virons Group).
