Custom Projects/New Royal Adelaide Hospital/Project: New Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia
Date: Mar 2016
Project Designer: Silver Thomas Hanley & Design Inc
Landscape Designer: Tract Consultants
Brief: The design philosophy for the project, “Park within a hospital, hospital within a park”, stemmed from the geographical link to the western parklands and the river Torrens. The “park within a hospital” incorporates 75 internal courtyards, sky-gardens, and balconies, the aim of which is to provide the patients and the staff with areas for “refreshment, respite, physical therapy, quiet contemplation, and a lively place to socialise”.
Solution: Spark worked in conjunction with Tract and their design professionals to deliver a range of items including shelters, seats, benches, fencing, and art works that deliver on the required aesthetic. Australian blackbutt timbers, corten steel, stainless steel and laminated softwoods feature heavily throughout the design.
